Solidarity with the Venezuelan anarchist’s efforts to create the Alternative Social Forum in Caracas, January 2006.

From Venezuela, the undersigned collectives and initiatives make this call for solidarity amongst anarchist groups and individuals the world over with the objective of creating in Caracas, between the dates of the 24th thru the 29 of January 2006, the Alternative Social Forum www.fsa.contrapoder.org.ve (FSA - for its Spanish acronym). We are deeply involved in the preparation and organizational work for this event, which has motives and objectives that coincide with what is being promoted by the Venezuelan anarchist movement, and as a result we have made every effort possible to solidify its successful creation; this is because we understand that in the current situation of Venezuela and in the rest of Latin America a Forum with these characteristics would be a opportune space to spread anarchist ideals and practice.

Expressedly, the Alternative Social Forum presents itself as a challenge to the VI World Social Forum (WSF) and the II Forum of the Americas, that are to take place simultaneously in Caracas on the same dates, under the sponsorship or patronage of the current Venezuelan government, whose ideological references are overly known, just like those of their allies in the Cuban dictatorship and those who currently combine the two states as the model to follow. We should also remember that the previous World Social Forums have been dominated by a reformist tone that has been imposed by the mainstream social democracy and NGOs financed by multinational capital, which has generated conflicts within those at the heart of the anti-globalization movement who promote a consequently more radical orientation. With this said, for the anarchist in this country, it became clear that we would have little or nothing to find at such an event, and as a result we have taken up the task of creating a “counter-forum” the FSA, where it will be possible for us to gather and debate with all those who share anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist positions, aspiring to build a future of liberty and equality in solidarity. In the preparation for the FSA, anarchist, as well as persons that do not consider themselves as such but following a libertarian orientation have participated in its creation that is reflected in everything that we’ve created so far (see web page). Because the FSA is a hemispheric-wide invitation, just as the WSF, we estimate the turnout for this event to be very favorable to the anarchist movement, not only locally but also at the continental scale. Also the FSA creates a unique gathering that is difficult to repeat to unite anarchist activist from inside and outside of this continent, which we will take full advantage of the occasion to make this event as beneficial as possible for the present and future relations at the heart of the Latin American anarchist movement.

With these circumstances, the magnitude of the tasks that we are facing has forced us to accept that we do not have the resources to count on for this event. We are proud that we have been able to generate locally funds that have sustained the majority of the expressions of the activities from Venezuelan anarchist during the last years. But our participation in the FSA implicates cost that only be covered by solidarity help from outside the country. That help is what we are urgently asking for in this letter, and can be offered by donations of materials to sell (publications, books, musical recordings, video documentaries, stickers, ect…), or also by donations in dollars or euros, that can be made in the following forms:

- Sending your donation through a Western Union service center to their agency in Caracas, under the name Rafael Uzcategui. Venezuelan ID # 11.599.339

   Appel au soutien aux anarchistes du Venezuela dans leur effort pour développer le FSA de Caracas – Janvier 06.

Nous lançons un appel à la solidarité des groupes et des individues anarchistes du monde entier pour la réalisation à Caracas, entre le 24 et le 29 janvier 2006, du Forum Social Alternatif (FSA – www.fsa.contrapoder.org.ve). Nous sommes fortement impliqués dans l’organisation de cet évènement, dont les objectifs coïncident avec ceux du mouvement anarchiste au Venezuela. Nous faisons donc tout notre possible pour que le Forum puisse se tenir avec succès. Car nous pensons, que dans la situation actuelle au Venezuela et en Amérique Latine, un forum avec ces caractéristiques sera un espace privilégié pour la diffusion des idées et des pratiques du socialisme libertaire.

Le FSA se veut un défi au 6^ème Forum Social Mondial et au 2^ème Forum Social des Amériques qui vont se réaliser à Caracas aux mêmes dates, sous le patronage du gouvernement actuel vénézuélien. Les références idéologiques de ce gouvernement, de ses alliés de la dictature cubaine ou des personnes qui encensent le Venezuela et Cuba comme deux modèles à suivre, sont bien trop connues. Mais il est aussi intéressant de rappeler que les précédents FSM ont été dominés par le réformisme imposé par la social-démocratie et les ONG subventionnées par le capital transnational. Cela n’a pas été sans générer des conflits avec celles et ceux qui proposaient une orientation résolument plus radicale au sein du mouvement anti-globalisation.

Il est donc clair pour nous que nous n’aurions rien ou peu à trouver dans un espace comme le FSM. C’est pour cela que nous nous sommes lancés dans l’organisation d’un « contre-forum » (le FSA) où il serait possible de nous rencontrer et de débattre avec celles et ceux qui partagent des positions anti-autoritaires et anti-capitalistes et qui aspirent à construire un futur de liberté, d’égalité et de solidarité.

A l’organisation du FSA participent des anarchistes et des personnes qui ne le sont pas mais qui suivent une orientation libertaire. Ses premiers résultats sont visibles sur la page web du FSA. Et nous estimons que le bilan de ce type d’initiative sera favorable au mouvement anarchiste, non seulement local mais aussi à l’échelle du continent puisque la convocation au FSA a été largement diffusée dans tous les pays d’Amérique. L’appel à participer au FSM est bien sûr aussi large. Mais le FSA donne en plus la possibilité de réunir les activistes libertaires américains mais aussi d’autres continents.

Dans de telles circonstances, l’ampleur de la tâche que nous affrontons nous impose de prévoir des revenus financiers que nos moyens habituels ne nous permettent pas de fournir. Nous sommes fiers d’avoir pu générer localement les revenus qui permettent de réaliser la plus grande partie des activités anarchistes au Venezuela ces dernières années. Mais notre participation au FSA implique des coûts qui ne pourront être couverts sans une aide solidaire extérieure. Le soutien que nous sollicitons par ce message pourrait être apporté par la remise de matériels pour la vente (publications, productions sonores et audiovisuelles, autocollants, etc.) mais aussi par des donations en dollars ou en euros. Celles-ci pourront se faire de différentes manières :

   ¡Solidaridad con el esfuerzo de los anarquistas venezolanos para impulsar el FSA-Caracas / enero 2006!

Desde Venezuela, los colectivos e iniciativas que suscriben este mensaje hacemos un llamado a la solidaridad de agrupaciones y personas anarquistas de todo el mundo con motivo de la realización en Caracas, entre el 24 y el 29 de enero de 2006, del Foro Social Alternativo www.fsa.contrapoder.org.ve (FSA). Estamos involucrados profundamente en los preparativos y la organización de este evento, cuyas motivaciones y objetivos coinciden con lo que se promueve desde el movimiento anarquista venezolano; por lo tanto, venimos haciendo todo el esfuerzo posible para concretar su realización exitosa, pues entendemos que en la actual situación de Venezuela y Latinoamérica un Foro con estas características sería un espacio privilegiado para la difusión de las ideas y prácticas del socialismo libertario.

Expresamente, el FSA se presenta como un reto ante el VI Foro Social Mundial (FSM) y II Foro Social de las Américas a realizarse en Caracas para las mismas fechas, bajo el patrocinio del actual gobierno venezolano, cuyas referencias ideológicas resultan sobradamente conocidas, al igual que las de sus aliados de la dictadura cubana y las de quienes actualmente ensalzan a ambos Estados como modelo a seguir. Tambien vale recordar que los FSM previos habían estado dominados por una tónica reformista impuesta por la socialdemocracia y las ONG´s subsidiadas por el capital transnacional, lo que había generado conflictos con quienes en el seno del movimiento antiglobalizador proponen una orientación resueltamente radical. Por lo tanto, para los anarquistas de este país resultaba claro que en semejante espacio tendríamos poco o nada que buscar, de modo que asumimos la tarea de impulsar un "contra-foro" (el FSA), donde fuese posible reunirnos y debatir con todos los que comparten posiciones antiautoritarias y anticapitalistas, aspirando a construir un futuro de libertad e igualdad en solidaridad. En la preparación del FSA participan tanto anarquistas como personas que no lo son, pero ciertamente siguiendo una orientación libertaria que se evidencia en todo lo que venimos realizando (ver página web indicada), por lo que estimamos que el balance de esta iniciativa será favorable para el movimiento anarquista, y no sólo localmente sino también a escala continental pues el FSA se convoca para toda el área de las Américas, ya que el FSM partía de un llamado similar. Además, el FSA crea una posibilidad dificilmente repetible para reunir a activistas libertarios de dentro y fuera del continente, por lo que aprovecharíamos la ocasión para hacer que ese encuentro sea lo más fructifero posible de cara al presente y al futuro de los vínculos en el seno del movimiento ácrata latinoamericano.

En tales circunstancias, la magnitud de las tareas que estamos enfrentando nos impone contar con recursos de los cuales nuestros medios habituales no nos permiten disponer. Estamos orgullosos de haber podido generar localmente las finanzas que sustentan la mayor parte de las expresiones de actividad anarquista en Venezuela durante los últimos años, pero nuestra participación en el FSA implica costos que sólo podrán ser cubiertos con auxilio solidario desde el exterior. Ese apoyo es el que solicitamos con urgencia en este mensaje, y puede brindarse a través de la remesa de materiales para la venta (publicaciones, audiograbaciones, videograbaciones, pegatinas, etc.), o también con donaciones en dólares o euros que pueden hacerse por alguna de las siguientes vías:
